Apple release a new Mac Pro today, and it's super awesome. It's got some serious processing power, but what's really impressive is that they have finally got the video card right, with the option of a GeForce 8800 GT. At the moment this card is right at the sweet spot in terms of value for money - performance-wise it challenges the $1000+ cards, and does it at a fraction of the price. The only problem is that demand is exceeding supply - there just aren't enough of these cards around. If you go to the Apple store, a standard Mac Pro (with an inferior graphics card) ships in 1-2 days. Add the 8800 GT and the waiting time jumps to 3-5 weeks. Oh well.. I've been waiting for one of these things for about a year so I can wait a few more weeks. Looks like the savings will be taking a hit this month...
